For a house or apartment, domestic water storage tanks are usually plastic polyethylene tanks. They are seamless, light enough to lift onto a roof, and are built in 3, 4 and 5 layer constructions. On an open roof, the 4 and 5 layer versions add a UV barrier and insulation. If the roof is not suitable, or you want the surface left free, an underground tank is the alternative, and a loft tank suits a tight ceiling void.

A water storage tank is a container that holds water for later use, so the building has a supply when mains pressure drops, during an outage, or at peak demand. In the UAE, most buildings keep a roof, plant room or underground tank as a buffer between the mains and the taps.
The main types are plastic (polyethylene) tanks, GRP fiberglass tanks, underground tanks, hot press GRP sectional panel tanks, IBC tanks and loft tanks. Septic tanks are also made in GRP, but they store wastewater, not drinking water. All of these are available from KHAZAAN.
Most villas use a plastic polyethylene tank on the roof or in a plant room. A 4 or 5 layer construction is the better choice on an open roof because it adds a UV barrier and insulation. If roof space or loading is a problem, an underground tank keeps the surface free and the water away from direct sun.
Multiply the number of people by about 175 litres per person per day, then by the number of days of buffer you want. A family of 4 with 1 day of storage needs about 700 litres (around 185 USG), and a household of 6 with 2 days needs about 2,100 litres (around 555 USG), so a 600 USG tank. Plastic tanks are seamless moulded polyethylene and are available up to about 6,000 USG, with a 5-year warranty. GRP tanks are glass reinforced plastic, made in much larger sizes up to 20,000 USG and beyond, with a 2-year warranty. For a house, plastic is usually the practical choice. For a large building or plant, GRP or a sectional panel tank is more likely.
Yes, but only a tank designed for burial. Underground tanks have ribbed walls that spread the soil load evenly around the tank. A standard rooftop tank is not designed to be buried and should not be.
Insulation and shade matter most. A 4 or 5 layer plastic tank is built for above-ground UAE conditions, an insulated panel tank is available for large installations, and an underground tank keeps the water away from direct surface heat.
Yes. Large buildings, hotels, labour camps and factories normally use GRP tanks or hot press GRP sectional panel tanks, which are built to larger capacities and can include partition tanks for drinking and fire water.
